Elmo Gonzaga is Associate Professor in the Division of Cultural Studies, and Director of the MA in Intercultural Studies Programme, at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). His second monograph, Monsoon Marketplace (Fordham University Press, 2023), looks at the media cultures of commercial and leisure spaces in Manila and Singapore during the 1930s, 1960s, and 2010s. His work has appeared in the Journal of Cinema and Media Studies, Cultural Studies, South East Asia Research, and the Journal of Asian Studies. He is a Member of the Advisory Board of Verge: Studies in Global Asias.
Chieng Wei Shieng is a PhD graduate in Cultural Studies, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her dissertation traced how ongoing logics of colonialities are inflected in Singapore’s contemporary arts scene, as well as potentialities of decolonial options from marginalised art histories and artists. Her research interests currently include decoloniality and its options, contemporary art, race and ethnicity, gender, sci-fi, digitality, humour, and the multiple potential imaginations of ‘southeast asia’.
